A couple of weeks ago I was on the phone with a friend when she said told me,
“There’s something I have to tell you.”
I hate this statement. Nothing good ever comes from this statement. No one ever starts off a conversation with this that ends with “you won the lottery!” or “you don’t have to pay taxes for a year!”
P and his roommate, from here on forth known as Foo have birthdays a few days apart in August. Foo is currently dating one of my best friends, Ivy.
Anyway. As a surprise for their birthdays, their other roommate, S, along with P’s best friend R decided to set up a little surprise for them. The original plan was to hire a few strippers to ride around topless with them on their boat while they spent the day wakeboarding, which honestly, I would have thought was sort of funny, though I probably wouldn’t have wanted to get in their boat again until they scrubbed it down a few million times with lots of Clorox, cause you know, I’m a hypochondriac and I don’t want crabs.
I guess it's harder to get strippers out in the daylight to joyride in a boat, though, because they couldn't find any. So R had the brilliant idea to ask a woman who occasionally works for he and P, a woman, let's call her Hooters, who I had befriended a few months before because she was new in town and I thought, a rather cool girl, to do it for them. She agreed. For $150. At the end of the day, all parties involved decided it was best to not share this information with their respective girlfriends because Hooters is friends with two of us and maybe it would make us feel weird.
Because I guess this never occurred to any of them BEFORE they asked her?!?
Now I consider myself to be fairly open minded, and I do understand that neither P nor Foo was involved in asking Hooters to parade her boobs for them for the day, but come on! After a month of withholding the story Hooters finally told another one of my friends who picked up the phone, a couple of weeks ago, and told me.
When I asked P about it he gave me the, but I had nothing to do with it and we promised not to say anything because we didn't want you or Ivy to feel weird story. Which is complete bull. In fact, HE feels weird about it. None of the guys even speak to Hooters now, and I finally know why. What I'm most upset by is that P's promised to stop hiding things from me, one of the things that nearly ruined our relationship in the past. And though I know nothing else happened that day on the boat, they all made it much worse by not telling us. Also, who thought it was a good idea to ask someone we all know and are friends with to do it? Honestly? Sometimes I really dislike his friends.
Hooters called me the day after I found out to explain her side of the story. She didn't think it was a bad idea at the time. It's just boobs!
Am I being old fashioned? I'm not sure. I do know that at 27, P should know what he does and doesn't need to tell me and he dropped the ball on this one. I don't think I'm wrong to think his friends were disrespectful of me and our relationship. I'm tired of the boys will be boys excuse. Give me one guy who would be happy if he found out his friend spent the day with his girlfriend with his balls out and then kept it a secret.
However, the idea of them getting strippers to do it, really didn't bother me, but I'm assuming that P would have told me that it happened. In the end it's the lying that hurts the most, I guess. I'm so tired of secrets. I'm also so over women who choose men over their friendships and their own self-respect. Men who don't give a rat's behind about them. I get it if you're down with your body and free and that nudity is OK with you but to do something that you have to lie to a friend about is just wrong.
If they didn't think it was wrong too, why hide it?
All in all, it's been a rough couple of weeks with P and I. On the upside, we've had a few really good talks about our relationship. Tonight, I am taking him home to meet my family for the first time!
